The canoe is a kind of Canot, boat light, at the origin in Bois, or skin or bark assembled on a wood reinforcement, moult to the simple Pagaie. The paddler names canoeist or ceist .
The canoe is related to the Kayak by the Sport which links them in the same federation: the international federation of canoe and for France, the French federation of canoe-kayak. For Canada, it is about Canoe-Kayak-Canada. The two boats are however different. The position of the canoeist base-is knelt and it uses a paddle with a blade (simple paddle) while the kayaker sat, lengthened legs, and makes use of a paddle with two blades (double paddle). One distinguishes several sporting disciplines making use of the canoe: thus, just like the Kayak, it can be practiced out of calm or sharp water. In the first case, only one discipline is practiced: it is about the race in line, Olympic since 1936. One there race the canoe in a place (c-1), two places (c-2), four places international (I-C-4) and in the case of Canada, the canoe with four place (c-4) Canadian as well as the canoe in 15 places (c-15) are added. The race on line is practiced on distances from 1000m, 500m and 200m. As regards running water, there exist several disciplines, whose the two principal ones are the descent of river and the slalom. This last is Olympic since 1992 after having been it in Munich in 1972.
This sport is very as largely practiced without competitive spirit, as it is on relatively calm rivères like the Ardèche, Rents it or the the Dordogne in France, or on torrents of mountain the such Ubaye, the the Verdon… In Morvan, the Cure and Chalaux are the sporting rivers fetishes of the Parisian ones: it is more close to Paris.
Origin
The canoe is of Canadian origin (First nations) whereas the Kayak, kind of boat single-seat closed to protect from the Arctic ice-cold water , is of origin inuit (Eskimo).
The Tourism and the Sport introduced the canoe in France into the Années 1930. The canoe was already known since the end of the 19th century in the form of the périssoire, subject of many tables of the painter Gustave Caillebotte, amateur of water sport…
