Cannibal Corpse

Cannibal Corpse is an American group of Death founded metal in 1988 per Chris Barnes, Bob Rusay, Jack Owen, Alex Webster and Paul Mazurkiewicz.

In spite of its musical violence, Cannibal Corpse is not a group of Grindcore. Indeed, its texts are not committed politically: they are in the pure tradition of the Death metal, with a tendency to strapping and with horrific series Z. the small pockets of their albums, macabre with wish, agree well with this style.

The first singer Chris Barnes (today member of the group Six Feet Under) and Corpsegrinder, his successor, are often the subjects of polemics. The opinions of the fans diverge when it is a question of deciding between Georges " Corpsegrinder" Fischer and Chris Barnes, some preferring the voice guturale of Georges Fischer and disavowing Chris Barnes following its departure to create Six Feet Under.

At the exit of the album Tomb Off The Mutilated, it is the explosion of the group on the international scene. In particular thanks to the title Hammer Smashed Face, which is the last played into live by the group, and also because Jim Carrey - extreme music lover - their proposes an appearance in his film Ace Ventura.

Recognized for its melody partitions, the group influenced of it many others in the Death brutal metal. The purpose of those are to be even more brutal and, for some, to succeed in combining several characteristics without the melody being too unmethodical: speed, technique and the wall of sound which, for not-informed, can seem not to be music.

Cannibal Corpse knew and knows still certain problems because of the violence of its work. Certain American politicians, whose Al Gore, Joe Lieberman and Bob Dole publicly showed them to pervert the morality of the young people and to encourage them with violence. In addition, the group is interdict in Korea, Australia and New Zealand; moreover, in Germany, it is defended to him to play in concert the songs of its first three albums, are Eaten Back To Life, Butchered At Birth and Tomb Of The Mutilated. The sale of these three albums is also prohibited in this country, and one withdraws compilations the songs which come from it.

From the 4th album, The Bleeding, the group finds certainly its way in Death Metal, but increasingly technical, the play of the guitarists is worked more.

Even if it sings there since Vile, George Fisher " Corpsegrinder" will take part for the first time in the composition of an album of Cannibal Corpse with Gallery Of Suicide. The introduced album of new depressive sonorities, which bring a coldness and a really glaucous environment.

NB:

  • Jack Owen forms part maintaining of the former members. It stopped following the group, of which it was one of the founders, to devote itself to its rock group (for reasons of musical divergence undoubtedly). Jeremy Turner (Ex Origin) replaced it for the round which followed, but could not remain. He said to have enough Death Metal of it and remained in the group only to touch a monthly salary.
Jack Owen since joined the group Deicide.

  • Rob Barrett was the guitarist of Cannibal Corpse of 1993 to 1996 because according to the other members, it is enough to listen to the first album to include/understand why. Then it reinstates the group in 2005, always as a guitarist.
