Canned Heat
Canned Heat is a group of Blues - American Rock formed in 1965. The group, always in activity nowadays, was its greater successes at the end of the Années 1960, taking an active part in the vagueness of the blues revival .
Canned Heat is the fruit of the meeting with Los Angeles of two large amateurs of blues: the singer Bob Hite and the guitarist Alan Wilson. Hite The Bear (in reference to its strong stoutness) and Wilson The Owl, Blind Owl (for its bad sight) are joined by the guitarist Henry Vestine (called Sunflower , and former member of the Mothers off Invention of Frank Zappa), the bass player Larry Taylor and the beater Frank Cook.
The group draws its name from an old blues of Tommy Johnson entitled Canned Heat Blues , written in 1928. The Canned Heat was a can which contained almost pure alcohol. In full prohibition, the most stripped drew a highly toxic drink from it.
Alternating between Blues, Rock'n'roll, Boogie, beginning again of old standards of the blues, the group records in 1967 its first album, simply entitled Canned Heat . The exit of this album, little before the noticed passage group to the festival Monterey, has only one mitigated success. On the other hand, the second album (for which Cook is replaced with the battery by Fito of Parra), titrated Boogie With Canned Heat , is a true success. One finds there traditional the One The Road Again , become one of the most famous pieces of the history of the rock'n'roll. Whereas the usual singer of the group is Bob Hite, it is Alan Wilson which sings on this title. Its high, fragile and slightly choked voice, makes it immediately identifiable.
In 1969, Canned Heat continues on its impetus with the double album Living The Blues . It contains in particular remarkable the Going Up The Country (sung again by Alan Wilson), immortalized in official film of the festival of Woodstock, where the group occurs during the summer (the live version of Going Up The Country figure on the original soundtrack of film). This piece was also used in publicity " Renault Espace" , which puts in scene a character of cartoon escaping towards the mountain.
In 1970, Canned Heat leaves its fourth album, heading Future Blues then records in the tread Hooker' Heat , with the ghost John Lee Hooker. It is the last album of the group in its form of origin. September 3rd 1970, Alan Wilson is found died in the house of Bob Hite of an overdose of sleeping pills. One will speak about suicide, without the circumstances of the death never being truly elucidated.
Canned Heat continues nevertheless its existence, by multiplying the rounds. In 1981, the group knows a new drama with the disappearance of its leader Bob Hite. Obese, he dies of an mild heart attack right after a concert.
One entitled book " Living room the blues, Canned Heat: a saga between music, drug, sex, died and survival " by Fito of Parra and T.W and Marlane McGarry, appears in French in 2007 at BeachComPress.
