Canet (Herault)

Canet is a common Frenchwoman of the department of the Herault, in the area Languedoc-Roussillon. The inhabitants are called Canétois.
Geography
At the edge of the river Herault, it is located at approximately 6 km of Clermont-l' Herault.
The communes bordering are:
- in the west, in its canton (and of north in the south): Brignac, Clermont-l' Herault, Nébian, Aspiran,
- in the east, on left bank of Herault, in the Canton of Gignac (and of the south in north): Tressan, Pouget and Pouzols.
History
The original site of Canet was more close to the river, with the current site of the tower Saint Martin's day (old church of the 13th century), beside which a castle now disappeared was built.Because of the floods of Herault, the inhabitants rebuilt the village more with the variation of the river, inside walls. Currently, this site corresponds to the old village with the narrow streets.
