Canada

In the Navy of the Canadian Armed forces, the rank of candidate of navy exists since 1996 for the Cadre of the Instructors of Juniors and for all the Navy since 1998. In the past, the title was Raise-officer, in English Naval Junior . This rank corresponds to that of Raise-officer in the terrestrial and air forces Canadian. The abbreviation of the term is " Aspm".

France

In the French Army, the rank of candidate is officially intermediate between the ranks of Sous-officier S and Officier S, but it is compared to the officers for the functions, the discipline and the everyday life. The candidates are thus called my lieutenant (in the Armies and Air and the gendarmerie) or lieutenant (in the Marine). Name Mister the candidate is employed little. Two categories of personnel receive this rank: suction pupil-officers or students in engineering and volunteers.

Since the end of the conscription, the rank of candidate is reserved for the pupil-officers. Those with the courses of their training courses in body of troops do not have, in general, command. Volunteers and reservists

The Army calls today more and more upon the voluntary , people holders of a diploma of first cycle. They can be useful for one one year duration (renewable three times) within the three weapons and the DGA, with the rank of candidate. It is the way privileged to become Officier under contract.

To be useful as a volunteer, It is necessary to be French (E), born (E) after December 31st, 1978 and to have achieved the Journée of call of preparation with defense or, if born (E) before this date, to have achieved the obligations of the National service or the JAPD.

It is necessary to have between 18 and 26 years and to fill moreover the a of the following conditions:

to be selected during a VDAT because of its aptitudes and competences;
to have followed successfully a military preparation tallies before voluntariate and being declared suited officer;
To be titular at least of a title and/or diploma of Bac+2 level (competition makes that the level is in practice rather at the neighborhoods of BAC+4/BAC+5).

The operational reservists can also be named with the rank of candidate under certain conditions of seniority, activity, diplomas or need for the units.

Portugal

The rank of suction-have-oficial is the first rank of officer of the Portuguese army, below those of alferes (Army and with the air), of guarda-marinha and sub-tenente (in the navy.

Romania

The rank of candidate is the first rank of officer of the Rumanian army.
