Cancri alpha
Acubens (Cancri Alpha/α Cnc) is a star located in the Constellation of the Cancer. The name Acubens is derived from the Arab Az-Zubana meaning “ the grip ”, in fact the grip of crab. The origin of this name is the same one besides as that of Zuben Elgenubi, the grip of the Scorpion. One also knows it under the name of Sertan , derived from sartan , Hebrew crab in .
Although carrying the designation Alpha, Acubens is actually only the fourth most brilliant star of its constellation, and not the first.
Acubens is a white Naine of spectral Type A5, but its electromagnetic Specter is very particular, since it have absorption lines very marked correspondent with certain metals, the such Zinc, the Strontium, the Zirconium, the Baryum and well of others still, from where its classification A5m, the “m” meaning metal .
Acubens is in fact a system quadruples, made up of a principal couple including/understanding two separate members of 0,1 Seconde of arc (that is to say the equivalent of 5,3 astronomical units approximately taking into account the distance from 174 light-years), these two members being probably very similar, i.e. two dwarf white of A5m type having each one a mass approximately the double of that of the Sun, and orbiting one around the other in roughly 6 years. Around this principal couple another binary star orbits separated by 11 seconds from arc (that is to say 600 ua), composed of two stars of class M, of Magnitude connect +12, the orbital period around the first pair being at least 6300 years.
