Cancer!

Founded with Angers in 2000 by Johann Cariou and Bruno Deniel-Laurent, the “multi-field transgenic review” Cancer! , whose title refers to the first novel of Mehdi Belhaj Kacem, was one of the literary re-examined of the last years.

Among his cultural references, one found, shovel-even, the Big game (the review of Roger Gilbert-Lecomte and Rene Daumal), Jean-Jacques Schuhl (author of novels " expérimentaux" in the Seventies and Price Goncourt 2001), the writers catholic lampoonists (Georges Bernanos, Leon Bloy, Marc-Edouard Nabe, Maurice G. Dantec), Dominique Russet-red. The scene Punk, the cinema of Fassbinder or Pasolini, the music cold-wave, arts performatifs (Costes, Flanagan) also belongs to the esthetic sphere of the " cancéristes". Quickly labelled “politically incorrect”, the review opened its columns with authors with the sulfurous reputation, like Marc-Edouard Nabe, Maurice G. Dantec, Costes, Alain Soral, Fernando Arrabal, Pierre Jourde, Stephan Zagdanski or Philippe Muray, which will be worth to him to be pinned by Daniel Lindenberg in his discussed Call to order . Not following a very clear ideological line, Cancer! will as well publish texts of defense of Tsahal as a praise of Zacarias Moussaoui or the opposite interventions of Maurice G. Dantec and Marc-Edouard Nabe on the war in Iraq. In 2003, disputing the judged orientations " néo-conservatrices" of part of the drafting of Cancer! , Marc-Edouard Nabe leaves the review and founds its own newspaper, the Truth , in which it publishes a paper avenger against the founders of Cancer! , and in particular against Bruno Deniel-Laurent.

The press ( Nouvel Observateur , Release , Paris-First , Nova , etc) will give an unquestionable echo to work of Cancer! and will ensure a beautiful notoriety to him.

Beyond its polemical aspect, the review Cancer! made it possible young authors to be essential near large editors. Raphaël Sorin, director leading of Beech, published besides a collective work with editions Thousand and One Nights, Gueules of Love . In this book, 14 “cancerists” publish a text of homage to a personality. One finds in this book of the texts written in a tongue of fire on Romy Schneider, Fernandel, Jean Genet, Simone Weil or… Richard Virenque.

Anxious to carry the literature in the streets, the " cancéristes" several singular literary events organized, of which a public reading and integral of Voyage at the end of the night of Louis-Ferdinand Céline, on December 7th, 2002, Place from the Sorbonne, 70 years day for day after the not-attribution of the Goncourt Price to the book. " cancéristes" also took the practice to invest a Parisian coffee, Pouilly, for evenings " arts persons and schouillesques".

The review is scuttled mysteriously in 2004, after having published 9 collective numbers and two works. Several of its authors, whose Laurent James, Costes, Pierre Jourde or Bruno Deniel-Laurent, were found in the literary review Tsimtsoûm , diffused like Cancer! by a network of bookstores agents in France and abroad.
