Canary of the Canaries

The Serin of the Canaries is familiarly called canary , because it is originating in the islands the Canaries. In the beginning, it has a marbled plumage of green and brown, which enables him to be camouflaged in the Arbre S of its natural environment. It is close to the Verdier d' Europe ( Carduelis chloris ) and more still of the Serin cini ( Serinus serinus ).

Description

Distribution

This species is endemic of the Canaries (El Hierro, Palma, Will gum It, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, absent from Fuerteventura and Lanzarote), of Madeira and the Azores. It was introduced in Bermuda between 1870 and 1930.

Captivity

The captive birds are usually Jaune S, with white ends. Also one evokes the “yellow canary”. Certain varieties are crested, others have a curly plumage, like “the curly Parisian one” or “curly Dutch” both curly, as their name indicates it, and of white color.

By its aptitude to be sung by integrating songs of other sparrows, the canary became most popular of the birds of cage. Thus, there exist races Dutch, American, French, Japanese, British…
