Canadian royal regiment
The Royal Canadian Regiment (or RCR) is a Régiment of Infanterie of the Canadian armed forces. It is about the oldest regiment of this type in the regular forces. It is composed of four battalions, of which three belong to the regular forces. The fourth battalion forms part him forces of reserve (militia). The four battalions of the regiment are stationed in the Ontario and the New Brunswick. As the majority of its soldiers have come for a few decades from the Ontario and the provinces from the Atlantic, the regiment is regarded as the “local” regiment of infantry of the East of the Canada.
The RCR has a regimental headquarters (PCR) with London in the Ontario, but this one does not have any operational role. It manages the businesses which are not spring of the battalions. Royal Canadian Regiment Museum (museum of the Canadian royal regiment) is also in London in the history Wolseley Hall. Wolseley Barracks (Wolseley barracks) of London is occupied by elements of the regiment since the completion of the building work of Wolseley Hall in 1888. At various times, it lodged 1st and 2nd battalions. It is used today still as garrison with the 4th battalion.
History
Royal Canadian Regiment is one of the oldest military units of the regular forces of the Canada. Baptized in the beginning Infantry School Body (body of instruction of the infantry), it was formed on December 21st, 1883, at the same time as the Cavalry School Corps (body of instruction of the cavalry), in order to form the Canadian militia. It gained its first inscription with the flag during the Rébellion of the North-West in 1885, by taking share with the battles of Batoche and Cut Knife Creek. The regiment provides then men to Yukon Field Force (1898-1900), which helped the police force assembled of the North-West in the Yukon during the gold rush.In 1899, the regiment is renamed in Royal Canadian Regiment off Infantry and takes the name of Royal Canadian Regiment in 1901.
In September 1914, the regiment is deployed in the Bermuda. It returns to Halifax in August 1915 to prepare with an intervention overseas. It arrives in France in October of the same year and joined the 3rd Canadian division, lately created.
September 1st, 1939, the regiment is placed in active service, the Canada having decided to take share with the Second world war. In December 1939, the regiment arrives at the United Kingdom with the 1st division of Canadian infantry and begins a drive which will last nearly four years. July 10th, 1943, the RCR lands with Pachino within the framework of the unloading combined in Sicily (Opération Husky). After having battled in all the island, the regiment takes part in another amphibious unloading with Reggio of Calabria. The RCR also takes part in the savage battle of Ortona, then with the attacks against German defenses of the Gothic Ligne in Italy.
