Canadian martyrs
The Canadian martyrs were eight missionaries Holy-Marie-with-country-of-Huron Jesuits of , who were martyrisés at the 18th century with the Canada.
The martyrs are Jean de Brébeuf (1649), No5el Chabanel (1649), Antoine Daniel (1649), Charles Garnier (1649), Rene Goupil (1642), Isaac Jogues (1646), Jean of the Moor and Gabriel Lalemant (1649).
They were killed at the time of the wars between the Huron and the Iroquois. They had converted many Huron, even if they did not have the whole confidence of the Huron ones. Iroquois regarded them as legitimate targets because they were posed into allied the Huron ones, and they had helped those to resist the invasions iroquoises.
They were canonized by the pope Pie XI in 1930. The Sanctuary of the martyrs to Midland in Ontario, the site of their action missionary near the Huron ones, their is dedicated. They are collectively patron saint of Canada.
Five parishes and a municipality of Quebec commemorate the Canadian martyrs.
