The Canadian junior of Montreal was a frankness Junior from Hockey of the Ligue of hockey major junior of Quebec of 1933 with 1961, and of the Ligue of hockey of Ontario of 1961 with 1972. It evolved/moved with the Forum of Montreal to Montreal.

History

The Canadian junior was a team affiliated to the frankness from the Canadian of Montreal of the National league of hockey of the beginning of the the Thirties. The team will have lasted until 1963 and the first fishing out of the LNH. The team played in an original manner in the League of hockey junior of Quebec, the not existing LHJMQ at the time.

1950

During eliminatory Series of the league of Quebec, the Canadian junior eliminates in turn the Citadelles from Quebec then the Saint Marys de Halifax, the latter having declared fixed prices after the first two gained matches 11 to 3 and 10 to 1 by the Canadian junior. Thereafter, the team eliminates the Biltmore Mad Hatters de Guelph and thus gains the right to represent is Canadian for the Coupe Memorial.

The final then opposes two teams affiliated to the Canadians: the Canadian junior against the Stalemates of Regina. The latter were beaten by the Canadian junior on the score of 4 matches to 1.

1969

Finally championship of the Association of hockey of the Ontario (old name of the OHL), the Canadian junior beats finally the Black Hawks de Saint-Catharines then of the Coupe Richardson, it beats 3 matches with 1 the Éperviers of Sorel. The manpower of Montreal counts there this year not less than thirteen recruits with old the goalkeeper of the Red Wings of Hamilton, Jim Rutherford.

19 years later, the two same teams clash finally Cut Memorial with the first two matches played Forum of Montreal whereas the two seconds were played on the ice of the Stalemates.

1970

The Canadian junior of 1970 finished first of the league and gained in the series successively against the 67 ' S of Ottawa, against Black Hawks de Saint-Catharines before playing the final against the Marlboros of Toronto. The Canadian junior gained the Coupe J. Ross Robertson before playing against the Greyhounds de Sault co. Marie, champion of the association of hockey of Ontario of north.

Montreal gained first match 6 to 2 before losing 5 to 4 the second match. It was the first time of the history which a frankness from north beat a frankness from the AHO during the series. The three matches according to were folded by the Canadian junior on the score of 10-1, 9-2 and 20-1.

For the Richardson Cut, the Canadian junior played to tell the champion of the league of hockey of Quebec in the person of the Remparts of Quebec with some Guy Lafleur in the manpower of the latter. Transfer in the LHJMQ

In 1972 the Ligue of hockey major junior of Quebec has existed now for three seasons and the inhabitants of Quebec want at all costs a frankness from hockey of the LHJMQ in the town of Montreal. Finally the Canadian junior decides to change league and the AHO in reaction gives a one year old suspension to the frankness.

This one re-elects then Blue-White-Red of Montreal. The frankness sanctioned by the AHO is recreated in 1973-74 with Kingston in the Ontario, with new leaders and new players. Despite everything, the team keeps part of the name first and is called the Canadian of Kingston.

  • Sam Pollock and Billy Reay was the trainers of the Cut Memorial of 1950.
  • Claude Ruel was the first two season old trainer in the league of Ontario (it will gain later the Coupe Stanley with the Canadian of Montreal in 1969).
  • the former goalkeeper Yves Nadon was the trainer of the team at the time of the first finales in 1964.
  • Roger Bédard was the trainer who brought the team to the Cut Memorial in 1969 and 1970.
