The activities of Canada Parks are regulated by the authority of the Act of the National parks, which was founded in 1930, and then amended in 1988.
Organization
Since 1998, Parcs Canada became an also known service under the name of the Agency Canada Parks. Parcs Canada is under the responsibility of Environnement Canada. Before 2003, Parcs Canada was under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Canadian inheritance, and this since 1994. From 1979 to 1994, Parcs Canada belonged to the Department of the Environment, and 1966 to 1978, the Department of the Amerindian businesses and the north and the department of the interior. With the organisational changes and the changes of leadership, the priorities of Canada Parks passed, with the years, from the development towards the conservation. Since the years 1960, Parcs Canada also tries to decentralize its operations.
Parcs Canada is directed at present by Alan Latourelle. In the year 2004, the annual budget of Canada Parks was roughly 500 million dollars. The agency has some 4000 employees through the country.
