Canada-West

The Canada-West was the name which carried the Western portion of the Province of Canada between 1840 and 1867. It contained the part of the Canadian province of the Ontario in the south of the Lac Nipissing, to the bank east of the Baie Georgienne and to northern bank of the Higher Lac.

In the past a colony called the High-Canada, it was amalgamated at the time of the Acte of Union of 1840 with the Low-Canada (today the Quebec) to create the Province of Canada, so called Canada-Plain, according to the recommendation of the Rapport Durham, published the previous year.
