Campenard

A campenard (or “ campanological wall ”) is an architectural , vertical element and generally rather flat, placed in top or in front of a building (church generally). It is acted in fact of a bored wall of one or more bay (S), intended (S) to accommodate one or Cloche (S). The word is sometimes spelled “ campenar' T ” and one employs sometimes the term of bell-tower-mur' .

This type of bell-tower is found for example in France in the plain of the Lauragais and until Toulouse, zones subjected to the Vent of Southerly wind. In Toulouse, in particular, the Notre-Dame church of Taur in offer a characteristic example. Moreover vaults are often equipped with it, in particular in Brittany, or in the Ardèche.
