Camille Ragut

Camille Ragut (1797 - 1870) was Archiviste department of the Saône-et-Loire of 1836 with 1866.

Born with Lyon (the Rhone) on May 27th, 1797, “professor of the University”, it preserved since 1829 the public library of Mâcon when it was named Archiviste department of the Saône-et-Loire by decree of August 17th, 1836.

One owes him in particular “Statistics of the department of Saône-et-Loire” in two quarto volumes published in 1838 at Dejussieu with Mâcon.

Perpetual secretary of the Academy of Mâcon, it wrote of 1833 to 1841 the report of work of this company; he gave up however this load with the profit of Charles Roland, former mayor of Mâcon, and was replaced since 1851 as perpetual secretary by Leonce Lenormand. In 1866, it left the direction of the files of the department where Louis Michon replaced it.

Its principal work is the edition which it made publish in 1864 of the cartulaire of Saint-Vincent of Mâcon, work that Theodore Chavot prefaced.

Camille Ragut is deceased with Villefranche-sur-Saône on June 9th, 1870.
