tourist places and event

The statue menhir of Santa Maria to the foot of the vault of the same name. With proximity, a large named flat rock “has Petra Frisgiata”.

Petra frisgiata I, site of the rupestral art most complete of Corsica (importance exceeding the local framework):

" 595 signs were raised, which makes of Petra Frisgiata I the site of the rupestral art most complete and consequently more provided île." " The study of the superpositions and the nature of the signs returns to several periods, between the age of iron and the period contemporaine". S.Leconte-Tusoli & L.Franceschini, " Archaeological guide of Corse" , under the direction of M-C Weiss, Albiana, Aiacciu, 2006, p.67.

For the dating of the Romance vault of Santa Maria, Genevieve Moracchini-Mazel written: " we proposed to retain that its construction, like that of the church of San Chilico, could date from the last years of XIIe or XIIIe S. and that it had to intervene to replace a preceding vault préromane (re-employments in the bell-tower). " G.Moracchini-Mazel, " Churches Romance of Corse" , C.Klincksieck Bookstore, Paris, 1967, vol.2, p.323.

Originality (importance exceeding the local framework) this Romance vault: " it is the only Romance furnace bridge places from there which was preserved to us in Corse" (G. Moracchini-Mazel). We will add that his form of " stazzona" is disconcerting (the three orthostates and the table: traditional dolmenic form in the South of the island, but from which there does not remain any trace in Castagniccia). All the more, that it is the only furnace bridge of this intact found type, and that it is attested that the vault replaced a preceding building préroman.

These three classified historic buildings (Capella Santa Maria, Stantara Santa Maria, Petra Frisgiata I), easily accessible and are clearly shown (of the visits are even organized).

Higher while going up towards the hamlet of San Quilico/San Chilicu one finds a superb vault Romance dating from XIIIe century: The vault San Quilico/San Chilicu (Holy Cyr) decorated carved decorations.

The oral tradition wants that the two vaults were built, one by the father, the other by the son. G.Moracchini-Mazel confirms that they " were certainly built at the same time ".
