Camarès

Camarès is a common French and a canton of the south Aveyron in the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

Geography

Located at 23 kilometers in the south of Saint-Affrique and at 80 kilometers of Béziers, it is crossed by the Dourdou de Camarès and is with the foot of the Monts of Lacaune.

Its red ground, the Rougier, is of nature schisto - sandy. It contains a rich person basement who allowed, as of the Gallo-Roman time, the exploitation of the first mines of Cuivre or siver-bearing Plomb.

History and culture

Initially Camarès indicated the area and the city carried the name of Bridge-with-Camarès . It undoubtedly drew this name from the Bridge Old whose date of construction is unknown, 11th century.
