Calusa
The Calusa , sometimes called Caloosa or Calosa , were a tribe Amerindian which did not live on the coast and along the rivers of the south-west of the Florida. Calusa means powerful men . They lived houses on Piloti S without walls and with the roofs of sheets of palm trees braided. Calusa were warriors.
It is estimated that the population calusa counted 50 000 individuals before the arrival of the European ; the tribe then controlled most of the south of Florida. Calusa were the first Amerindian tribe that the Spanish explorers met in 1513.
