Caloyers
Caloyers (of the Greek kalos ghérôn , beautiful old man), Greek monks of the Order of Saint-Basile.
They live, either in convents, as with the Mont Athos, in Morée, with Patmos, or isolated in hermitages, being devoted to agriculture or the Prière; all are subjected to cruel macerations. The caloyers of Athos and Pathos are delivered to the study; one chooses among them the bishops and the patriarchs.
