Calon-Ségur castle

The castle Calon-Ségur , is a wine field of 94 hectares located at Saint-Estèphe in the Gironde. AOC Medoc, it is classified third great wine with the classification of 1855.

History of the field

Calon owes its name with a small boat used with the Moyen-âge to transport the wood of a bank to the other of the the Gironde. The commune whose field depends is for a long time called Saint Estèphe de Calon. After the conquest of the Guyenne, the vineyard was successively property of the family of Albret, of lord Jean de Lur, Pierre de Marsan, finally of Gasq.
The 18th century, the marquis de Ségur, chairs Parlement of Bordeaux which had also the Château Lafite and the Château Latour, acquired, by his marriage with the widow of Mr. de Gasq, the castle and his field. The marquis de Ségur added his name to that of Calon. “I make wine with Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon” liked to say this last: an appreciation which one finds on the current print of the castle.

In 1894, the field is repurchased by Georges Gasqueton and his uncle, Charles Hanappier. It is directed today by Denise Capbern-Gasqueton who succeeded her Philippe husband in 1995.
