Calmels-and-the-Viala

Calmels-and-The-Viala are a common French of the south Aveyron in the area the Midday-Pyrenees. Calmels-and-The-Viala fact part of the Canton of Saint-Affrique.

Geography

Located at 350 meters on a headland above the Dourdou, the village of Viala overhangs the territory of the commune which extends in the alluvial valley from Dourdou, in the middle of the Rougier de Camarès.

History

  • Of the inscribed menhirs was discovered on the commune, exposed to the Musée Fenaille with Rodez and to the Musée of national archeology of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer.

  • Of the mines of Cuivre was exploited there in the Antiquité.
  • With the the Middle Ages, the church depended on the évêché of Vabres.
