Calimshan

The Calimshan is a kingdom of fiction of the forgotten Royaumes, based at the same time on the Perse, the Arabia and the Spain.

The empire shelters more than 5 million people, and is directed by a sultan. The noble class is made up pashas.

Its capital is a gigantic commercial port, Calimport, hearth of the assassin Artemis Entreri, large enemy of Drizzt Do' Urden. The other large cities are Memnon and the coastal town of Schamedar.

Geography

Calimshan covers the south-eastern border of Féérune, including the Desert of Calim and the Marsh of the Spiders. It is a country with the dry and hot climate.

History

Calimshan has been the oldest empire of Sands, existing for more than 7.000 years, founded by the Djinn S, a race humanoïde of the Plan of the Air. The Djinns were very good magicians and the country keeps still today a taste pronounced by the use of the magic to the daily newspaper. The reign of the Djinns was completed after one millenium, following an invasion of Efrit S, the geniuses of the Plan of Fire. The antipathy of the djinns towards the efrits would go back to this period.

The battle was long and violent, being spread out over more than 100 years. The Djinns reflect the efrits diverts some but were very weakened. Their race declined. During 4000 last years, Calimshan was controlled by human tribes (originating in the Shaar, of Chondath, Amn…).
Certain tribes started to settle and with sédentariser, thanks to fishing, agriculture and the trade. Soon, a civilization was born, and the Shoon empire was founded 1.300 years ago.

The Shoon Empire was glorious and gave rise to the pretentious and sufficient side calishites of today. The magic held a place to with it important, that it is in transport or the life of the every day, and Shoon itself was a large wizard. It created a book, made out of metal, making a meter in height almost, the Tome cheese of the Unicorn.

900 years ago, the Shoon Empire disappeared, corroded by many epidemics. Only remains from now on the size that Calimshan still shows.

The ruins of the large imperial city of Shoon, Monrativi Teshy Mir, are with orée of the Forest of Mir. There exists a half-dozen of big cities nowadays, exerting each one a capacity in its area. 170 years ago, a man of Calimport bought the services of an large army and declared pasha of the very whole nation.

Before the army does not get under way, the representatives of each city met and decided to recognize its authority and to pay him a small tribute. The oldest son of the pasha inherits the title and the representatives elect new if the pasha does not have wire.

The current pasha, Rashid Djenispool, have directed the country for 18 years, and are the grandson of an elected pasha 44 years ago.
