The California of the south ( Southern California , SoCal or Southland in English) is the name given to the Mégalopole and surrounding area which occupies the southern part of the State of California. However, these last years, even of the cities being apart from the state, like Phoenix (Arizona), Las Vegas (Nevada) and Tijuana (Mexico), tend to being indicated like belonging to the megalopolis. If these cities were there include, California of the south would be the most populated area nation with approximately 30 million inhabitants, that is to say 10% of the total population of the the United States.
There are no borders clear or exact of this area, the inhabitants are based on the geographical relief and characteristics to establish them. In the west, it is the Pacific Ocean, in the south, it is the international border between the the United States and the Mexico, in the east they are the deserts of Mojaves and Sonora and with north the chain of Tehachapi, located at 110 km in the north of Los Angeles, which separate the area from the remainder of the State.

Two world cities are in California south: Los Angeles, regarded as the " capitale" area, and San Diego in the south. The area accommodates the International airport of Los Angeles, the third most active airport of the the United States, and the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach, most important of the country.
Several universities among most prestigious of the world are also in the area, like the the University of California to Los Angeles, the the University of California of the South, Loyola Marymount, Claremont Consortium off Colleges, Pepperdine University, Cal Tech, five campuses of the the University of California (San Diego, Irvine, Riverside, Santa Barbara, as well as the campus previously mentioned of UCLA) and eleven campuses of the Université of State of California. The popular expression " Tech Coast " is used to describe the diversified technology and the industry of the area as well as the multitude of Université S of research and institutions which are installed there.
California of the south is the world capital of the Cinéma, the Télévision and the musical recording, since it shelters Hollywood and is the seat many companies: ABC, Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Dreamworks, Walt Disney Company, and much of others.
It is also an important center on the level of the Sport (seat of Fox Sports Net). Among the many teams of the area one can quote the famous franknesses: Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels off Anaheim, San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Los Angeles Galaxy, Chivas the USA, and San Diego Chargers.
With inhabitants coming from the four corners of the world, California of the south east pionnière in the appearance of many Subculture S, for example the movement Hippie, and of new musical genres like the punk Hardcore. The unit has a very strong influence on the whole world.
