Origin of the name
With origin, one indicated under the name of California territory well more vast than State of the United States current, since it was composed of the totality of the Mexican peninsula now known under the name of Baja California and of the grounds which are today in the States of California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and Wyoming (Alta California).
Some think that the word “California” is a derivative of the name of the mythical paradise of Calafia such as it is presented in Amadis de Gaulle, a Spanish novel of the 16th century of Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo, which was in the book a ground difficult to reach where gold is in abundance, inhabited by alive Amazones in caves, and strange animals. Others suggest that the word California would have a closer connection with the first Spanish colonists which, when they entered to California by the heats areas of the south, referred to the area as being " heat like a four" (cali = hot, fornia = furnace). But the etymology can just as easily be caliente fornalia , the Spanish for “heat furnace”, or the Latin calida fornax , climate hot.

The fast increase in the population starts to pose problem and the State currently wonders if it is necessary to continue to extend the highway network or rather to concentrate and improve the Public transport in the urban areas, and rail links between the main cities. It seems that this last way starts to be borrowed, with, for example, creation a few years ago of the California High Speed Rail Authority , of which the goal is to study the project of a line at high speed, same kind as TGV, between the four principal cities of California. That would make it possible to go from Los Angeles to San Francisco in two hours and half instead of 7:00 in the car.
