Calasparra

Calasparra is a municipality in the province of Murcie, Spain. It has a surface of 193 km ² and a population from approximately 9.700 (2004). It is crossed by the Segura and is known by the production of Riz.

Calasparra is located at the Western North of the area of Murcie, in an mountainous area where the history and the culture mix with the tradition and nature. Calasparra profits from a rich person passed, grace in particular, with a privileged geographical location. In an arid area, the territory of Calasparra is traversed by four rivers, of which Rio Segura which is thrown in the Mediterranean.

This watery richness facilitated the installation of various civilizations throughout its history. Many vestiges testify to the passage of the Romans, the Moslems or of the Arabs.

The river constitutes especially a resource for the inhabitants, in particular the local farmers, who profit from a true oasis, in the middle of an area, where scarcity of water in fact an incommensurable richness. This marriage between the sun and water allows the culture of a rice of quality, whose fame constitutes the pride of a whole area.
