Cai Yuanpei

Cai Yuanpei (蔡元培, Cài Yuánpéi) (January 11th 1868 - March 5th 1940) was a teacher Chinese and chair it Université of Beijing, known for its criticism of the Chinese Culture which leads to the Mouvement of May 4th.

Biography

Born in the village from Shānyīn, province of the Zhejiang, Cai were named with the Académie Hanlin at 26 years. In 1898, he became administrator of institutes:

  • Chinese principal Western of Shaoxing (紹興中西學堂監督)
  • Chief of the Shànshān college of the district of Shèng (嵊縣剡山書院院長)
  • Directing of the special class of the public school of Nanyang (南洋公學特班總教習)
He created the Guangfuhui in 1904 and rejoigna the Tongmenghui the following year. After having studied the Philosophy, the Psychology, and the History of art at the university of Leipzig in 1907, he became Minister for education, on a purely provisional basis, of the republic in 1912, but had to resign under the presidency of Yuan Shikai. It turned over in Germany then in France.

Cai turned over to China in 1916 to become president of the Université of Beijing the following year. It is during its stay at the university of Beijing that it recruited famous thinkers (and future leaders of the Chinese Communist party) like Chen Duxiu and Li Dazhao. In 1927, it Co governed the formation of the national college of music which became later the Conservatoire of music of Shanghai. In April 1928, he became the first president of the Chinese Académie of sciences.

Cai was the lawyer of the equal importance of the five lifestyles -- " Virtue, Wisdom, Health, Collective, and Beauty " (德、 智、 體、 群、 美) -- who is always taught with Taiwan. He was opposed to the bandaged Pieds and the Concubinage, and was made defender of the women's rights to the divorce and the remarriage.

Cai Yuanpei died in old 76 years with HongKong. ----
