Cacti
Cacti is a software of supervision network based on the power of data storage of RRDTool. It functions thanks to a Web server equipped with a Database and language. It perhaps regarded the successor of MRTG and also as an interface of use of RRDTool.
It makes it possible to graphically represent various statutes of peripherals network using SNMP or thanks to scripts (Bash, Perl, VBs…) to have for example the disk space remaining or the memory used, the load processor or the Ping of an active element. The data are collected near different the agents SNMP (or near local scripts) thanks to a script php. For better performances achievable, named cactid, can also carry out the interrogations.
The interest of this software lies mainly in its principle of “models” ( Templates ) which makes it possible to create in a generic way the graphs in order to be able to re-use them. In a general way, “all” is model under Cacti. That is advantageous when many identical data must be observed, but that can appear tiresome to configure when the data are heterogeneous.
Contrary to MRTG which regenerates the whole of graphics every 5 minutes, Cacti dynamically generates the images with posting starting from the data files RRDTool.
It is also possible to carry out simple operations (and combinations of operations) with the various data grace an graphical interface which allows the simplified use of order CDEF of RRDTool.
