Cachi

Cachi is a picturesque small town of the north-western of the Argentine, located in province of Salta. It is the chief town of Department of Cachi.

Situation

Its geographical coordinates are. It is at an altitude of 2280 meters, on the edges of the Río Calchaquí.

It should be noted that the city is crossed by famous and the almost mythical trunk road 40, which connects it to north with San Antonio of los Cobres, west of the province of Jujuy, then north of the Chile or the Bolivia, and in the south with Cafayate, Santa María and the Salar de Pipanaco.

Population

The dynamism of the population of the small city is extremely important these last years. The figure reached 2.189 inhabitants in 2001, which represented a growth of 52,7% between the two censuses of 1991 and 2001.

Tourism

The city is within a remarkable mountainous framework dominated by the Nevado de Cachi (6.320 meters).

It is of colonial style, with its White Houses built out of clay on a basis of stone, with roofs of straw. The windows are decorated there grids of wrought iron.

To visit: Plaza Central which shelters two remarkable centers of interest:

  • the Iglesia de Cachi (Church of Cachi). This church of the XIXe century of style Néogothique was declared National Historic building in 1945. Remarkable the fact that certain parts of the church were built out of wood of Cardón (wood of the cactus candelabrum ): the roof, the furnace bridge, confessionals inter alia.

  • the Museo Arqueológico " Pío Pablo Díaz" (archaeological Museum). The museum shelters more than 5.000 parts spread over one 10.000 years period. The essence being located of 800 before JC at 1600 after JC.

The city starts to be equipped well in hotel infrastructure.
