Cabrespine
Cabrespine is a common French, located in the department of the Aude and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants is called Cabrespinois.
Geography
Cabrespine is a small village close to the Regional natural park of High-Languedoc blotti at the bottom of the valley of the Clamoux which descends Pic of Nore in picturesque throats and from there full south will meet the Orbiel. It is located at the borders of the Minervois and the Cabardès, between plain and black Montagne.
History
At the time of the Roman conquest, Cabrespine was equipped with minor roads compared to the way domitienne which allowed the exploitation of the mines of Fer. They a long time abandoned then Re-were exploited at last century. There remains today of the galleries and the deads. Cabrespine de Caput Spina (head of spine) belongs to the Abbaye of Lagrasse since the time of Charlemagne until the Révolution. In 814, a Charte of Louis Débonnaire mentions the presence with Cabrespine of a “Cellae”, monastic dependence being used with désencombrer the Abbaye as Lagrasse, and allowing the monitoring of the exploitation of the Field by some Moine S residing there. There remains about it today only some less and less visible ruins.
At the time Carolingian, there were two church S. the Chapelle Notre Dame of Pity, contiguous to the current Cimetière, of which there remains nothing any more but one wall and the church Pierre saint. Ancient church built in the Romance Style, it remains nothing any more but one white marble plate carved in the style of the Mérovingienne time exposed in the current church built on the same site in 1753.
The Château of which there remain only some ruins goes back to 1035, time of the Capétiens. In the beginning it was royal garrison. In 1217, it was given to the abbey of Lagrasse by Simon de Montfort, in remission of its faults. Returned with the royal crown towards 1327, it is in turn attacked by the Huguenots then taken again by the Catholiques in 1584.
The inhabitants of Cabrespine lived work of the ground for a long time. The Vine of course but also the Chestnut S, the olive-trees for the trees and the Rye and the Potato for the culture of the grounds. Finally one raises some Brebis and Mouton S for the Laine. From the three Fair S annual, that which takes place first Monday of August (founded by a Royal decree in 1845) is a fair with the animals with wool and the stave woods of chestnuts.
At the beginning of the XXe century, Cabrespine is an important commune where thrive of many tradesmen and craftsmen. One counted in Cabrespine more than 850 inhabitants in 1851. But industrialization and the wars involve the inexorable fall of the population. It is the departure towards the cities of bottom Languedoc or towards Mazamet. Before the Guerre of 14-18, it does not remain any more that 600 inhabitants and this figure will decrease further.
However today, the preserved framework of this village sees the arrival in its center of new inhabitants. That they are here for estival short periods or at the year, the village is again a place where one wishes food for a summer or part of his life…

Pierre Duhem, Paris June 9th, 1861, Cabrespine September 14th, 1916. Audois by his/her mother, Fleming by his father, Pierre Duhem professor of university was illustrated in the history of sciences and physics.
