This club which was the champion of surprised France of the season 1946-47 ceased its activated in 1970.
At the time of fusion founder, one tries to preserve the personality of each club, and the professional sections are only concerned with this fusion which is pressed in fact on the small local club of the U.S. Roubaix. We are in 1945. In 1948, the sections amateurs of the two clubs roubaisiens are absorbed.
The club with the colors black and red (then black and white) uses of 1945 to 1947 the three stages of the clubs “ancestors” (Amédée-Prouvost of Excelsior; Jean-Dubrule park of the R.C.R.; stage Charles-Van de Weegaete, ex-stage Albert-Fromentin, of the U.S.T.), before settling definitively at the Amédée-Prouvost stage.
Under the top management of Brown Pierre, sport director, the C.O.R.T., which are pressed on the old elements of the clubs roubaisiens like Henri Hiltl, joined by Julien Darui, Frutoso, Lucien Leduc, Grava, Staho and the Jerusalem Austrian, aligns the good performances quickly. After the 3rd place taken down in championship in spring 1946, the great season of the C.O.R.T is that of 1946-47.
After a departure in waterspout of the R.C. Strasbourg which aligns eight consecutive victories, the Black and Red roubaisiens occupy the place of leader of 9th to the 26e day. Rheims returns then in the race to the title benefitting from a clear fall of mode of the Northerners. The C.O.R.T gains however the championship of France by aligning three consecutive victories.
At the base of this national crowning, one finds the guard Darui, true chief of the defense, whose remote and precise releases constitute an often decisive offensive weapon.
After the season 1946-47, the recorded results are rather chaotic in spite of a frightening defense articulating itself around Darui, Meuriss and Delepaut. The trainers then take turns with the bedside of the C.O.R.T in order to instigate it, without success. The supporters roubaisiens, formerly so festive (record of multitude with Amédée-Prouvost of 17.993 spectators on September 20th, 1949), are done rarer. The barrack rooms seldom exceed the 8.000 spectators last the course of the Fifties.
Ultimate attempt in spite of staggering finances, the international defender Danish Svend Nielssen is bought 8 MF with a.S. Roma. Roubaix then leaves the soft belly of the classification for the hollows…
Loser his mythical Darui guard who signs in Montpellier (1953), Jean Muttin also leaves his presidential armchair to Mr. Meresse. Roubaix is relegated in Division 2 at the conclusion of the season of season 54-55 in spite of the replacement at the beginning of January of Marcel Desrouseaux by Jean Baratte to the post of trainer. The abandonment of the statute pro being even evoked, the juicy transfer of Delepaut to the L.O.S.C for nearly 5 MF allows the continuation of the adventure.
In 1957, U.S. Tourcoing leaves the C.O.R.T., which preserves however its name… and its supporters at Tourcoing!
Roubaix knows a start without a future by hanging a place in quarter of finalist in Coupe de France in 1958 (demolished 7-4 against Rheims, after having eliminated the French Stade, Rodez and Besancon). Stanis Laczny says Staho is then in load of the post of trainer, very demanding in Roubaix, after the short passages of Batmale, Demeillez, Winckelmans, Payne, Darui, Desrousseaux and Baratte.
Lemaître, Lechantre and Maurice Blondel take turns then with the bedside of the C.O.R.T which gives up its professional statute in 1963 for financing problems and sets out again, to its request, in Promotion of Honor of the League of North. The R.C. Roubaix takes again its independence. It takes seven years for the C.O.R.T to take down its first championship of the League of North (Division of Honor) in 1970. At the conclusion of this season 69-70, the C.O.R.T ceases existing (June 15th 1970). The club sets out again sousson identity “Excelsior”: Excelsior Athlétic Club of Roubaix.
