CONSIDERING (magazine)

CONSIDERING is a weekly magazine French of information created and directed by Lucien Vogel which appeared of March 21st 1928 at May 29th 1940. Is parallel to launched LU which proposes an international press review translated into French, and takes as a starting point the Berliner Illustrierte Zeitung .

Leading line

The design of the newspaper is revolutionist. The central place granted to the Photographie makes of it the first large Hebdomadaire systematically illustrated photographs, whereas the Illustration sorrow to be renewed, and that already the Intransigent and Paris-Evening , popular newspapers, make a sales point of it.

That is allowed by the use the beginning of the year 1930 of the Héliogravure, proceeded of powerful copper plate printing, adapted to pullings of high-quality for the press; but also by the fact that CONSIDERING answers in that a request for images on behalf of the readers. The photographers are called André Kertesz, Brassaï, Germaine Krull, Robert Capa, Gerda Taro, Marcel Ichac and discuss directly with Lucien Vogel.

This one, in esthète lit by the artistic movements of its time (he had been police chief of the Soviet house with the International exhibition of the decorative Arts of 1926 and was sensitive to the Constructivisme) gives to the magazine a modern graphic line. Of large size (28 X 37 cm), the Logotype is created by Cassandre, the artistic director entrusted to Alexander Liberman (" Wednesday - director appears: Lucien Vogel - assembly of Alexandre").

Photomontage S daring, sometimes of great artistic quality, put in abymes, oppositions, rate/rhythm brings dynamism to the setting-in-pages.

Engagement

With a speech without ambiguity against the danger Hitler, the magazine CONSIDERING was the first French magazine with speaking and showing Concentration camps (Dachau and Oranienburg) in its number of the May 3rd 1933, the photographer not being other than… Marie-Claude Vogel, girl of Lucien, future wife of Paul Valiant-Dressmaker (writer and editor association of the Humanité ), future off-set political with Auschwitz and future witness with the Procès of Nuremberg. CONSIDERING will battle against Fascisme and Nazisme in an tireless effort of warning statement throughout all year 1930.

The day before the world war, Lucien Vogel is laid off following the dissension of the shareholders about the orientation of the newspaper favorable to the Spanish republican cause. The magazine will not go back from there.
