Origin
The invention of the chips is allotted to George Crum, a Chief cook with the Moon Lake Lodge with Saratoga Springs, New York, on August 24th, 1853. The legend wants that Crum had fun to cut out in very fine discs the potatoes which a customer (who one thinks of being Cornelius Vanderbilt) returned continuously cooks some under pretext which they were too large. Impossible to seize with a fork, the potatoes of Crum met a true success and it maintained them on its chart. They became a speciality named according to the name of the village, Saratoga Chips .This “dish” became rather popular in the Années 1920, with the birth of a national request which corresponds to the invention of the machine with chips, development by Hermann Lay, an itinerant salesman of the south of the the United States.
The chips are initially sold out of tubes but this packing poses an important problem: the chips of the bottom are salted too much and too fatty. A sealed sachet is then used. Laura Scudder invented the hermetic chips sachet by uniting two sheets of paper quite simply paraffined, which allowed in addition to preserving the chips fresh to the opening before the date indicated.
The merchants of chips invented receipts in order to touch a maximum of customers. The owner of the Tayto company was the first to propose chips with cheese, onions or vinaigrées.
Nutritional value

They are very heating (more than 3500 kcal/100 G), rich in fat contents (approximately 360 G of lipides/100 G) and rich in Sodium (600 mg/100 G).
