C-Walk

C-Walk or Crip Walk is the name given to the " danse" what exerts the members or ex-members of the Crips, a Criminal organization present of with dimensions of Los Angeles like in many big cities américaines.
C-Walk was born in the Seventies in the South Central Los Angeles.

Origins

C-Walk is at the beginning a macabre and cynical dance exerted by of Crips after having assassinated or having lynched a member of the Bloods, the gang adverse.
This same dance is also practiced to celebrate the arrival of a novel member within Crips, to alert his/her companions of the arrival of the police force during the perpetration of a misdeed and to even prove its friendship towards another membre.
However, the image returned by this dance is very different because certain rappeurs such as W.C, Snoop Dogg, Ice-T as of other more or less known rappeurs practiced it.

Practice of C-Walk

Various movements

the V (the " V") consist in carrying out a movement so as to make a V with its feet. It is about the movement first of C-Walk, it is also more pratiqué.
the Heel-Toe (the " heel-orteil") imply to make a half-turn with its heels and its toes by crossing a leg (the right foot having to be directed with 90 degrees behind the left foot). It is about a a little difficult movement and is seldom carried out at the time of a " Crip Walking".
the Shuffle (the fact of trailing its feet) consists in trailing synchronically its feet ahead and behind.
the Snake (" the serpent") be carried out by positioning ahead a leg (right or left) on its toes and while making follow the leg remained behind in a short lapse of temps.

Les last three described movements are done, for reasons of rate, during the movement the V , which is to him continu.

The Music which goes with

Many pieces of Gangsta Funk as of Gangsta Rap are appropriate for the practice of C-Walk.
The tempo must be rather slow in order to correspond to rhythmic of the various movements, in addition, a repetitive melody is conseillée.

Appropriate dress

For cultural and practical reasons, the rather broad vétements are conseillés.
Usually, the behavior of the Gangster basic of Los Angeles is selected: a white Tee-shirt of size XXL or a check shirt only closed by the button the top (influence Chicano), broad pants in Dickies fabric, a broad Jean or a pantacourt, sport shoes (Nike Cortez or Converses Chuck Taylor All-Stars) as well as a bandana placed in various ways on the head and sometimes even with the front armlevers.

Recovery

In addition to one film like " You Got Served" , certain artists of Rap and even of R&b recovered, to divert the general public, C-Walk.

With Paris, one evening named the " Sunshine Wrinkles Party" place has regularly, it is about one evening centered on the Gangsta Funk and where C-Walk is of rigueur.

Notes & Anecdotes

Said W.C.A., in connection with C-Walk: " The Gangstas don' T dance, they boogie". To translate: " The Gangsters do not dance, they 'boogie'" (indefinable term indicating the movements of C-Walk, inter alia).
Snoop Dogg said, while being addressed to the teenagers and to the artists nonconcerned by Crips: " C-Walk is for the Crips only". To translate: " C-Walk relates to only Crips".
