Daily life

The children of the commune are provided education for in primary education at the school of Saint-Hymetière. They attend then the college of Arinthod.

The inhabitants work with Arinthod, Oyonnax and Lons-the-Salt maker.

The commune has two communal residences.

The Saint-Didier vault was built at the 18th century and was restored in 1935.

Another vault located at the center of the village goes back to 1835.

Built at the 11th century, the church of Saint-Hymetière constitutes a jewel of the Romanesque art, with octagonal bell-tower, stones of lava and tomb stones old. Dam Vouglans

Monumental infrastructure builds in the years 1960, the dam Vouglans is visited in order to bore the secrecies of this concrete giant 125 meters height creating a water reserve of 35 kilometers. Its construction required 500 people full-time during five years. One can admire not far from reserve, the convent of the Carthusian monks of the 12th century, promised with engloutissement but which was rebuilt dry.

Abbey church of Gigny

Set up at the 9th century under the impulse of the Bernon monk, one of the founders of the abbey of Cluny, the church of Gigny is interesting for several reasons. Its chorus, vestige of the first construction, its octagonal bell-tower and the funerary steles of the 16th century reinforce the particular identity of this building to stripped architecture.

Archeological site of Villards-in Héria

Old place of Gallic rites, the Romans built a sanctuary and baths to pay homage to two divinities of the war Mars and Bellone at this crowned place became today an archeological site of foreground.

Church of Cuiseaux

Of a contemporary invoice dating from the restoration supplements of 1851, the church of Cuiseaux shelters many objets d'art crowned and worship added to the inventory of the Historic buildings. The stalls Rebirth out of wood, statues polychrome of the 15th century and a black Virgin of the 13th century reinforce the charm of the place.

House of the Vine and the Vine grower

The house of the Vine and the Vine grower sticks to the memory of the last glorious vine grower of Cuiseaux thanks to the exhibition of equipment of harvest, with the explanation of the techniques of wine making, like with the evocation of the daily life of then.

Notre-Dame church

Classified historic building, the Notre-Dame church is characterized by an original and imposing architecture in its dimensions in particular its Gothic vault and its platforms. But the treasure of this building is the organ of the 17th century, oldest of the area.
