César de Vendôme
César de Bourbon , (born the June 7th 1594 with Coucy-le-Câteau - † October 22nd 1665 with Paris, 71 years old), duke of Vendôme (1598 - 1665), duke of Stamps. He is the illegitimate son of Henri IV, king de France, and of Gabrielle d' Estrées.
Legitimated in 1595, it was provided with the duchy of Vendôme by his father in 1598 and also accepted the title of Duc of Beaufort. In 1623 it founded the college of Vendôme of which it entrusted the administration to the order of the Oratoriens.
It passed a good part of its life to be intrigued, in particular against Marie de Médicis, then against his half-brother Louis XIII. Implied in the conspiracy of Chalais, aiming Richelieu, he was imprisoned in 1626 with his Alexandre brother with the Château of Vincennes. He was released only in 1630 and was exiled in Holland. He returned in 1632 and took part from there, with his second wire, with the Cabale of Important the . Again exiled, this time in England, it returned from there only in 1642. It is only with the marriage of his/her son Louis, duke of Mercœur with Laure Mancini, niece of the cardinal Mazarin that it assagit and remained faithful to Anne of Austria during all the Fronde. It was named large Admiral de France (1651), and general superintendent of Navigation (1655).
Marriage and descent
César de Vendôme married the wealthy heiress of the kingdom, Francoise of Lorraine, countess of Penthièvre, girl of Philippe-Emmanuel of Lorraine, duke of Mercœur, and niece of the queen Louise of Lorraine, widow of Henri III, which will give him three children:- François (1616 - 1669), Duke of Beaufort, known as the King of the Markets
- Elisabeth (1614 - 1664), married to Charles Amédée of Savoy, duke of Nemours
