César Ritz

César Ritz , born the February 23rd 1850 and dead the October 26th 1918, is hotel and contractor Suisse.

Biography

It was born with Niederwald, village of the High-Were worth in a family of shepherds and begins his career with large the Parisian Hôtel the Splendid one; he exerts then the function of Master of hotel In Voisin, a Parisian restaurant which must close following the Guerre of 1870.

He becomes in 1878 the young director of the Large National Hotel of Lucerne, function which he holds of 1878 with 1888 in parallel of that of director of the Large Hotel with Monaco. Pioneer of the development of the great hotel trade of luxury, it can allure the easy customers and quickly acquires a reputation of good taste and elegance. It is the advent, in this XIX century end, the hotel trade of luxury, in particular the tourist areas and the big cities.

In 1888 it opens with the large cook Auguste Escoffier a restaurant with Baden-Baden, then is attracted with London by Sir Richard d' Oily Carte, a rich person investor in order to become managing director of the Hôtel Savoy, station which it occupies of 1889 with 1897. In 1896 it founds a hotel company of development to its name, which causes its dismissal in 1897.

In 1898, it founds celebrates it hotel Ritz, Place Vendôme with Paris, then in 1905 the Hôtel Ritz of London. Those consequently become the privileged meeting places of the good company of the time.

Patient (suffering it of depression seems), César Ritz leaves the businesses as of 1907 and dies the 26 ctobre 1918 in Suisse, with Küssnacht and is buried in his native village. Because of its innovations César Ritz can be regarded as the father of modern hotel trade. He left his mark in the history of hotel trade so much and so that in English the word “ritzy” is an adjective which indicates the last word as regards elegance.
