Célestin V

Holy Pietro Angeleri also known as Pietro del Morrone ( Pierre de Moron ) (born in 1209 with Isernia, then in the Kingdom of Sicily, auj. in the Weakens - died the May 19th 1296), was an Italian monk of the Moyen-âge, pertaining to the order of the Bénédictin S, and founder of the Ordre of Célestins. He was elected Pape in 1294 at the 84 years age, becoming the 192e pope of the Catholic church under the name of Célestin V . He was canonized in 1313.

Biography

Pietro del Morrone lived in Ermite in an isolated cave, in the most total austerity, when one went to carry the Tiare to him. Elected with Perugia, after two years of vacancy of the throne, it was not cardinal at the time of his election. It was inexperienced in the businesses of this world and feeling soon itself its insufficiency, it abdicated five months after its election. Boniface VIII, its successor, held it with the Château of Fumone in Campanie, where he died holily two years later. He was the last pope, before Gregoire XII, to voluntarily abdicate the papal throne. Clément V canonized it. It is honoured the May 19th.

Chronology

  • 1209 : Birth with Isernia, (Weakens) of Pietro Angeleri also known as Pietro del Morrone .

Mystic, he becomes hermit on Assembles Morrone (from where his name) then in a place even more withdrawn called Maiella a few years later.

  • 1239 : Sacerdotal studies leading it to the priesthood in Rome, then return in its hermitage.

  • V. 1244: It founds a community of spiritual following the rule of Saint Benoit (Badia morronese), which will be the base of the Ordre of Célestins.
  • 1273 : It goes to foot, in winter with Lyon where begins work from the second council of Lyon in order to defend the statutes of the order which it lately founded and threatened of suppression. It succeeds in its company.
  • 1293 : Enlarging of San Spirito de Morrone
  • is withdrawn in the cave of San Onofrio, above the abbey.
  • April 4th 1292: The pope Nicolas IV dies.
  • March 1294: Charles II of Anjou returns visit to Pierre de Morone and a letter with the cardinals suggests to him who cannot agree on a candidate.
  • July 5th 1294: elected official Pope.
  • August 29th 1294: Dedication to Santa Maria di Collemaggio (Aquila).
  • December 13rd 1294, Abdication with the Manor house nuovo with Naples.
  • December 24th 1294: Benoît Caetani is elected Pape under the name of Boniface VIII.
  • Return to the hermitage of San Onufrio, then San Giovanni in Piano, then Vieste.
  • June 1295: Boniface VIII the fact of leading to Anagni, then with the castle of Furmone (between Alatri and Ferentino).
  • May 19th 1296: Died at the 86 years age; buried in the church San Antonio de Ferentino. The thesis of poisoning is not proven.
  • 1304 : Philippe Beautiful the makes come from Célestins that it installs in Ambert (Orleans).
  • Years 1305 - 1306, Philippe the Beautiful one, fights about it with Boniface VIII makes countryside near Clément V (Bertrand de Goth) to obtain the canonization of Célestin V.
  • 1308: Foundation of a second monastery close to Soissons ( Abbey of Saint-Pierre-with-Mount-of-Châtre ).
  • May 3rd 1313: Canonization of Célestin V to Avignon.
  • 1517 : The skin of Célestin V is transferred in the church Santa Maria de Collemaggio (Aquila) built by Célestin V in 1286.

In the Prophecy of Saint Malachie, it is known under the currency “ Ex eremo celsus ” (Of the hermitage raised with the sizes).
