Célestin Port
Célestin Port is a French historian born the May 23rd 1828 and died the March 4th 1901.
Born with Paris in a modest family (her father holds a store of umbrellas), it follows a schooling to the École of the charters, writes a thesis entitled Essai on the maritime trade of Narbonne (constant in 1852) and, in 1854, becomes archivist of the Département of Maine-et-Loire.
Urged on by its Master Jules Quicherat, it devotes 47 years of its existence to the history of the Anjou, on which it publishes important work. Its work main - and often plagiarized - is its " historical, geographical and biographical Dictionary of Maine-et-Loire " published in three volumes of 1874 with 1878. It operates at the same time with the classification of the departmental records.
Célestin Port does not make mystery of its convictions republican are militant, but it keeps away from the quarrels from the parties. It is also interested in the theater and Latin poetry. It also gathers a collection of engravings and photographs.
