Célestin III

Célestin III (Giacinto di Pietro di Bobone), born with Rome, known initially under the name of Cardinal Hyacinthe (deacon of the title of Sainte-Marie), pope of the April 14th 1191 with its death the January 8th 1198, was elected at 85 years. He was member of the famous family Orsini.

He crowned the emperor Henri VI of the Holy roman Empire, with the empress Constance of Hauteville, which did not prevent it from excommunicating this prince in 1194, because he retained captive Richard with the return of the crusade. He condemned the divorce of Philippe-Auguste, gave the Sicily to Frederic II of the Holy roman Empire, wire of Henri, provided that he paid tribute with the the Holy See, made preach crusades, and approved the creation of the Ordre Teutonique whose most important role was to defend the Holy Land pilgrims.

He was buried in the Saint-Jean-of-Lateran basilica.
