Célestin II

Célestin II (Guido di Città di Castello), born with Città di Castello (Ombrie), which had made name it GUI of Chastel before its exaltation, succeeded Innocent II in 1143, and was pope of 1143 to the March 8th 1144. It put an end to the interior quarrels of the Church with the assistance of Bernard de Clairvaux, disturbed by Arnaud de Brescia, but died as of the following year. It tried to put a term at the war between the Scotland and the England.

He was the first pope of the list of the Prophétie of Saint Malachie under the currency: " Ex Castro Tiberis ".

the name of Célestin II had already been selected the December 15th 1124 by a pope lately elected, but this one had to give up under the constraint as of the following day and, for this reason, it never appears in the lists of popes.
