Câmpeni
Câmpeni (in German Topesdorf , in Hungarian Topánfalva ) is a city of the Judeţ de Alba, in Transylvania, Romania. In July 2002, the city counted 8.080 inhabitants.
History
The city is the capital of the area of Ţara Moţilor (country of Moţi).It is thought that the Révolte of Horea, Cloşca and Crişan (1784-1785) began in Câmpeni. Horea had been born beside Câmpeni in the village called Arada (today Horea).
During the Transylvanian revolution of 1848, Câmpeni was the bastion of Avram Iancu, a revolutionary chief of the Rumanian national movement being born. There is a museum Avram Iancu downtown.
Economy
The city is a center regional of exploitation of wood and manufacture of pieces of furniture. Although the city is located at the center of a mine field, this industry does not belong to its industrial heritage. Câmpeni grows in popularity like centers tourist.
