HistoryThe city is the capital of the area of Ţara Moţilor (country of Moţi).
It is thought that the Révolte of Horea, Cloşca and Crişan (1784-1785) began in Câmpeni. Horea had been born beside Câmpeni in the village called Arada (today Horea).
During the Transylvanian revolution of 1848, Câmpeni was the bastion of Avram Iancu, a revolutionary chief of the Rumanian national movement being born. There is a museum Avram Iancu downtown.
EconomyThe city is a center regional of exploitation of wood and manufacture of pieces of furniture. Although the city is located at the center of a mine field, this industry does not belong to its industrial heritage. Câmpeni grows in popularity like centers tourist.
