Códice Manesse

The gradation is a figure of Rhétorique consistent in a succession of expressions going by increasing or decreasing progression. It creates a rate/rhythm in the sentence and persuades by the beauty of the music of the words.

  • Would be satisfied with the flowers, of the fruits, even of the sheets,/If it is in your garden with you that you them pickings! (Cyrano of Bergerac, Edmond Rostand).
