Byte (magazine)
Byte was a Magazine American Informatique treating microcomputers of the Années 1970 with the Années 1980, partly thanks to its broad leading spectrum.
Whereas the magazines of the medium of the Années 1980 were massively directed Wintel or Macintosh, generally from the point of view of " use; bureautique" , Byte covered a broad spectrum of computer applications of small computers and software. It published regularly, of the broader articles treating supercomputers or of high availability.
The first number of Byte left in 1975, some time after the appearance of the first microprocessing kits available near the circle of the electronics specialists — by the means of the magazines of electronic practical. The initial price of subscription was of 10$ annually.
At the beginning, Byte published mainly articles on the electronic or data-processing kits and programs improving operation of the computers. After the appearance of the IBM PC, it was gradually directed towards the publication of tests of computer material.
Byte continued to grow until in 1998. It was then repurchased by CMP Media, company publishing of other specialized magazines in data processing. CMP Media ceased then the publication of Byte (the last number is that of July 1998), laid off all the editorial team, and closed the relatively important laboratory of test of products that Byte had. The subscribers could choose two subscriptions with other magazines of CMP. This brutal way to close such a known magazine and always in growth shocked and horrified much at readers. Several people in anger affirmed on Internet that CMP Media had repurchased Byte with an aim of destroying a competitor. The publication of the Byte continued in Germany and with the Japan. The Arab edition finished abruptly.
