By the way

By the Way is the title of the eighth album of the Red Hot Chili Peppers left the July 8th 2002. He is often regarded as energy in the continuity of Californication , preceding album left by the Californian rock group.

The songs of this album are however mélodieuses than in the past, the atmosphere which reigns in the words and musics mark truly a difference. This is due to the absence of Funk (except for some songs like " By the Way" , " Throw Away Your Television" or " Can' T Stop") contrary to the preceding albums. This melody new approach is due mainly to the guitarist of the group, John Frusciante. Its fascination towards the Beach Boys is noticed in many pieces of guitar on the album. In February 2006, whereas he was interviewed on the exit of the following album, Stadium Arcadium , Flea declared in connection with By the Way :

" It was a bad experiment for me. There were tensions in the group, of the tensions between me and John, and from a creative point of view I did not feel at ease inside the group. I did not feel free to express me. "

The next month, the British magazine Q revealed that Flea intended to leave the group following this album and after the round. However during their round in Europe at the summer 2004 (during which they recorded Live in Hyde Park ), it was again ready to continue.

In the shows into live of the group, few songs of this album are played, certainly because of these tensions which reigned at the time of the recording. But certain tubes like " Throw Away Your Television" or " Don' T Forget Me" became pieces impossible to circumvent of their concerts.

Red Hot recorded 28 songs for this album, but during an interview before the exit of the album, the group explained why they had preferred to preserve the mélodieux pieces for their album. On the whole, 25 songs left, 16 on the album, 7 on the faces B of the various individual extracts from this one and 2 like songs no-claims bonus via ITunes.

The reaction of the fans with respect to By the Way was very mitigated, even if the success of individual the " By the Way" , " The Song" Zephyr; or " Can' T Stop" their brought new fans.

The small pocket of the album was carried out by the American painter Julian Schnabel, whose Stella girl, who was used as model, had at the time a connection with John Frusciante.
