Buyei

The Buyei or Bouyei or Buyi or Puzhong or Burao or Puman () are an alive ethnicity in southernmost China. With the number of: 2971460 in 2000, they are the eleventh greater group of the Nationalités of China officially recognized by the Popular republic of China.

Buyei live in a semi-tropical zone within the high forests, mainly in the autonomous counties Bouyei-Miao of the prefectures of Xingyi and Anshun and in the autonomous prefecture of Qiannan Bouyei-Miao of the province of the Guizhou but also in the provinces of the Yunnan and the Sichuan. They speak a language tai. Traditionally they are animists, although some converted with the Christianisme.

Language

Buyei speak the language buyei which is very close to the zhuang. The language buyei has its own written form which was created by linguists in the Années 1950 with a Latin alphabet and conventions of orthography similar to those of the system Hanyu pinyin .
