Butyl Hydroxytoluene
The butyl hydroxytoluene or BHT is a Food additive . It is about: 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-méthylphénol or 2,6-(a) (1,1-diméthyléthyl) - 4-méthylphénol. Powerful synthetic antioxydant, discussed. It seems that not enough studies was carried out about it. It resists the high temperatures which can occur during the manufacture of the product, contrary with certain natural antioxydants like the vitamin E. Used in agribusiness industry and cosmetic. It would be metabolized in the event of ingestion and is suspected of being allergen and is carcinogenic. Possible contaminants: sulphuric ashes, arsenic, heavy metals.
It is noted E321 by the European Union. It is presented in the form of crystals or colorless powders to pale yellow.
