Button

The Boutonne is a French river , affluent of the Charente.

Geography

It takes its source with Chief-Buttons (which wants to say head of Boutonne) in Two-Sevres. It is thrown in Charente with Carillon, commune of Cabariot, a few kilometers before Tonnay-Charente. Buttons is navigable during 31 km, until Saint-Jean-with Angély.

History

At the 18th century, Buttons it was arranged starting from Saint-Jean-with Angély so as to facilitate the navigation of trade for the transport of the pineau on board Gabare S (flat bottom wood boats). The Phylloxéra and the advent of the railroad at the beginning of the 20th century reflect fine with this activity. Today Buttons it is a river strewn with many hydraulic works. She knows serious periods of dryness due to the abusive irrigation of the cereal cultures. Many activities take place on Buttons of which the fishing and the practicable Canoe-kayak in a sporting way and in leisure, in particular with the basin of slalom of Bernouët.
