History

Bussières comes from his old Latin name " Buxeriae".

One finds there a fortified camp with spur barred from the time Gallo-Roman, with the place called In Monsard. Station of Bregnat Rock: tools of the Neolithic era to the Bronze Age.

Personalities related to the commune

  • the Dumont abbot, tutor and friend of Lamartine, lived in Bussières. The cave of Monsard located above the village inspired Lamartine for the character of " Jocelyn". This cave is now called Grotte of Jocelyn.

  • Henry Testot-Ferry, inventor of the Roche of Solutré lived in Bussières, of which he was a long time the mayor. The street passing in front of its house bears its name henceforth.
