Bush Australian

The Australian bush occupies approximately 800  000 km ², divided into two large écorégion S of the type Forests, wood and undergrowth Mediterranean:

  • forests, wood and undergrowth of Australian south-west.
  • the Hammers out S and wood of the Australian south.

The vegetable Formation is sparse and organized in two layers, a shrubby layer of sclerophyllous type (with hard sheets) and/or spine uses and a layer under-shrubby represented by Broussaille S developing in Mediterranean Climat.

South-west (493  000 km ²)

Australian south-west with the ground S sandy receives slightly more Précipitation S, that in the others Mediterranean environments, it can thus accommodate a Flore and a richer fauna, and being surrounded of Outland , the Endémisme will be important there. Nearly 70% of the 5  500 species of Plante S which adapted it there are.

The expansion of the Agriculture, the arrival of plants foreign grasses, new animals, the urban development as well as the introduction of the parasite will phytophtora fungus are the principal threats which weigh on this habitat, threatened.

Among the prevalent Plante S one finds:

  • Of the Eucalyptus: eucalyptus lehmannii , the jarrah ( eucalyptus marginata , used for the manufacture of fences), hammers out it red ( Eucalyptus erythronema ), etc
  • Cephalotus follicularis , an endemic carnivorous plant.
  • Of the blue Orchis S of China ( Caladenia gemmata ).
  • Thysanotus multiflorus .
One finds some Oiseau X:
  • the elegant mérion ( Malurus elegans ), endemic.
  • the splendid mérion ( Malurus splendens ), endemic.
  • the méliphage singer ( Lichenostomus virescens ), endemic.
  • the noisy atrichorne ( Atrichornis clamosus ), endemic.
Some Reptile S: Mammalian S:
  • the Hare wallaby striped ( Lagostrophus fasciatus ), endemic.
  • a small marsupial mouse ( Ningaui yvonnae ), endemic.
  • the Marsupial Numbat or Fourmilier ( Myrmecobius fasciatus ).
  • the red Phascogale ( Phascogale will calura ).
  • the mouse with honey ( Tarsipes rostratus ).

The south (310  000 km ²)

The coastal Dune S of south-west are characterized by the prevalence of the Mallee ( Eucalyptus diversitfolia ) and by the presence of many Oiseau X.

The Agriculture and the grazing grounds were right of the vegetation of this area which as a majority disappeared.

Among the plants one finds:

  • Eucalyptus Eucalyptus diversitfolia
  • Melaleuca Melaleuca lanceolata
  • Hakea Hakea rugosa
  • many Herbaceous S ( Orthrosanthus multiformis , Baeckea crassifolia , Pheballium bullatum , etc)
Bird X:
  • diamond with tail of fire ( Stagonopleura bleated ), endemic.
  • the skylark ( Alauda arvensis ), introduced.
  • the small corbel ( Corvus mellori ), endemic.
  • the whistling one of Gilbert ( Pachycephala inornata ), endemic.
  • the whistling one with russet-red face ( Pachycephala rufogularis ), endemic and threatened.
