Bus shelter

Abribus is the trade name of a type of bus shelter S or shelters of bus proposed as from 1964 in Lyon, by the company JCDecaux with the territorial collectivities in France. The product included/understood elements of urban Mobilier making it possible to protect the users from the bad weather to the stops of the lines of Autobus or Autocar S associated with a site for advertizing panels . The material was often provided free by the company which was remunerated by publicity. In a context where the possibility of creating new advertizing sites was limited, this concept ensured the fortune of its creator and a position of chump end Monopole for its company.

Today, in France, the installation of urban furniture is regarded either as a Public service delegation, or like a government contract but, in a case as in the other must be the subject of a competition. The clauses of renewal by tacit agreement appearing in the old contracts were considered to be illegal and are the rectifying endorsement object.

Bus shelter must be written with an initial capital because it is a registered trademark by JCDecaux.

This term passed, in certain areas, the common language. However, the French Academy recommends the use of the Belgian-French phrase bus shelter like alternative.
